The introduction of these long-form unskippable ads appears to be a strategic move by YouTube to push more users towards their subscription-based service, YouTube Premium. This platform provides an ad-free experience, amongst other benefits, for a monthly fee.
While YouTube Premium can indeed offer a reprieve from the upcoming wave of unskippable ads, it comes with its own set of dilemmas. Not all users are willing or able to spend on a monthly subscription. Many enjoy YouTube because of its free content, and introducing these ads may detract from that experience.
